Saturn in LRGB

Equipment & Processing

Meade LX200 10 inch telescope, web cam with a b&w 1/3" sensor, Philips ToUcamPro2 in raw for the color, TeleVue 3x Barlow lens and a tele-extension.

LRGB Composite of 2 avi files. Luminance: 1500 images were stacked out of 3000 using Iris, video of 5' at 10 frames/s. Color: 1000 images were stacked out of 3000 using Iris

Processing with successive wavelets using Iris, post-processing with Photoshop.


Note the presence of the C ring, closest to the globe of Saturn. Many cloud bands are visible on the planet, the Cassini division on the rings is obvious! The picture was taken after opposition, that is why the globe of Saturn displays its shadow on the rings.
